Darin Steen discussed how to use whey protein in a post-workout meal.

What are whey peptides?

Whey Peptides are powerful isolates of amino acids derived from much longer whole whey protein molecules. It was discovered that these isolated Whey Peptides exerted the following benefits:

* More insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) was released

* Improved overall endocrine hormone response

* A highly increased state of nitrogen utilization and retention

* More intracellular, anti-aging antioxidants

* An increased state of immune function

* Improved gastrointestinal health

* Increased muscle growth rates

Hi, not sure if this is the place to ask this question, but.. i dont want anabolic steroids or anything to do with them in my body. a whey protein (NitroTech) said it has anabolic properties i was wondering if this means it has anabolic steroids?

Post by Admin, Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at 15:01

There are no steroids in that protein powder. NitroTech is a product sold by an American company and steroids are illegal in the US.

The company's website claims that their protein formula "triggers an ababolic environment by optimizing nitrogen retention."

Their website continues to say that their forumla is... "powered by Nanomolecular Hyperdispersion Technology™ to overcome whey protein’s inherent limitations. This exclusive technology utilizes nanoparticulated amino acid peptides that are a fraction of the size of regular protein particles for ultrafast absorption. The precise portion of nanoparticulated amino acid peptides found in Nitro-Tech Hardcore are engineered to have an extremely high bioavailability, targeting muscles for light-speed delivery and unparalleled muscle growth."

So it's safe to say there are no illegal steroids in the formula, but they claim to create an anabolic effect because, as they claim, the amino acid molecules are so small so they are easily digested by your body. I have no idea how effective this formula is, though.

does 100% gold standard whey of optimum nutrition contains steroids or is it a pure form of protein?

In the United States, steroids are illegal, except by a doctor's prescription.  So, you will never see steroids in any protein powder that is sold in the US.  The brand you are asking about is marketed and sold in the US, so it is safe to say there are no steroids in it.

What is all this about steroids and protein. This is like saying drinking Milk is taking steroids!

Whey protein is extracted from natural Cow MILK! You do NOT get steroids from protein but you get amino acids after digestion which are responsible for your existence on this planet. You would be dead gone without out them so you need protein to live.  When people use the word anabolic it has nothing to do with steroids. Anabolic means your body is building muscle tissue and catabolic means your body is breaking muscle tissue down. This depends on nitrogen retention levels. Your body goes from anabolic to catabolic and vice versa all day long so thus has nothing to do with drugs. The more you keep your body in a anabolic state, the more muscle tissue gets synthesized so it best to eat 5 meals a day and consume plenty of protein if you want to pack on some muscle and STAY ANABOLIC.

Cheers
